Error 0x04100407 - Microsoft's canned answer:
To run Windows Live OneCare safety scanner, you must be logged in as administrator on your computer. Please log in using an administrator user name and password, then rerun the scan. If you continue to encounter this error, it may be that the scanner is down temporarily, in which case we recommend you try your scan again at a later date.
To make matters worse Vista is a little different:
If you use Vista (UAC), you should launch Internet Explorer as an administrator to perform an online scan. To do this, try right-clicking the Internet Explorer icon in the Start menu and select "Run as administrator" from the context menu.
Microsoft does it is not occupied, including things so we rewrote to eliminate some of the errors that occur, it is a little smoother.
Run CleanDisk - Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools. Just follow the instructions that the program tells you what you can safely delete. These parameters are also used by the scanner. Make sure you have at least 40 MB of free storage space on your hard drive. Not much of a problem with the discs Giga today.
Configuration:
· Turn ActiveX / JavaScript
· Tools> Internet Options> Advanced tab. Scroll to Security and uncheck (if checked) "Allow active content to run in files on my computer."
· One or more of these should be chosen: Tools> Internet Options> Advanced tab. Select SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 or TLS 1.0.
The execution of the clean registry scanning is not recommended. These cleaners, not just this one, 14 systems were damaged in recent months as I know. Microsoft did not participate in this forum in over two years. What are the chances they have done any development on cleaner to keep it updated. Customize Run (blue) and uncheck Registry Scan. Or you can run the analysis and use of (^) and (v) allow you to expand or contract selections to deselect specific issues.
As for running in Safe Mode, you normally do that. What happens is that only processes that are needed to boot the system up and running are used. This means that most applications / hardware does not work. This includes your Antivirus / Antispyware / Firewall, etc. If you were in safe mode the screen is strange and SAFE are shown in the corners of your monitor. To exit, you simply restart normally. I do not know what safe mode you refer to, but I hope this is not what I mean. And no, I do not know why they call SAFE.

Q. I am looking for a way to secure my third-floor windows to prevent an accidental fall. Bars on the windows like the best option, but are much more expensive than window locks or holds. Am I covering all the bases if I go with the cheaper option? Basically, I do not want cheap safety of my children, but I do not want to spend unnecessary money either. Tricia, Calgary, Alberta
A. Prevention of Falls from Windows is important to consider, since States Product Safety Commission that the consumer, the United States, "approximately 12 children 10 and under die each year and more than 4,000 are treated in emergency rooms of hospitals for window fall-related injuries. CPSC knows of 120 window-fall related deaths to children since 1990. In addition to a guard window, you can use a window stop to prevent a window from opening more than 4 inches.
The main drawback to using a single window or a corner, then you must leave the windows closed, especially when kids are around. A guard of window or door has the added advantage that you can open the windows and still not worry about your child falls through them.
Or consider a combination of both methods Childproofing, install bars on windows on some windows you often open for ventilation, and locks or wedges on the windows that you, most often kept closed.
To keep your children safe, in addition to close monitoring, you must also:
* Leave your children not to play around windows, even if they are closed because they can be injured if they fall through the glass of a window closed
* Rely not on the screens to keep your children from falling
* Consider installing landscaping in Windows that could cushion a fall
* Installation of Windows that can open from the top instead of bottom, if possible
* Keep furniture away from windows, so that your children are not tempted to climb on them
Also keep in mind that if you install a window guard, since you are below the 6th floor, you must install one that can be easily opened by adults and children in case of fire. Otherwise, if you were on the 7th floor or above, you can install a window guard permanently.

Windows Live OneCare safety scanner, Windows Vista beta is a special edition of the scanner available to anyone with a PC running Windows Vista. The OneCare safety scanner is a free Web site based service that gives you answers on the state of PC demand and security scans to help diagnose and solve problems, but it does not protect it Proactive your PC against new viruses. The scanner is compatible with Windows Internet Explorer 7 or higher or MSN 9.5.
I recommend a complete Windows Live OneCare safety scanner scan once a month. Forever on the security service, visit Windows Live OneCare, which provides two-way firewall, virus protection, tune-up for the monthly routine maintenance and optimal PC performance and backup and restore functionality.
The length of a scan depends on the size and number of your hard drives, and the type of scan. A virus quick scan will be fast enough (usually within minutes), while a comprehensive full service scan takes about 90 minutes. But the good news is that you can use your computer while the scanner works, and you can cancel a scan at any time during its progress
You can access this free security scan on http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/whatsnew.htm

The security solutions from Microsoft including Windows Live Safety Scanner version 1.1.3007.0 and Microsoft Windows Live OneCare 1.6.2111.32 (1.1.2803.0), have nothing to compete with
Products Avira, BitDefender, Kaspersky, Gdata, Symantec, Panda, Trend Micro and others. Independent Security Test Equipment AV-Test has executed two rootkit detection and removal of marks, the last month of 32-bit copies of Windows XP and Windows Vista Ultimate.
AV-Test thrown into the same arena of Internet security suites, web-based online scanners, specialized anti-root kit tools on Windows XP, as well as solutions and for security on Windows Vista. "In the caseof Windows XP, all products (in their most current versions) have been updated and then frozen, October 25, 2007. The only exceptions were the online scanners, which have been tested October 25 and November 2, 2007, revealed security researchers Andreas Marx and Maik Morgenstern of AV-Test.
On Windows XP, testing implementing several steps, including detection of inactive rootkit samples, active and latent malware. At the same time, security products have been tested for their capacity to eliminate rootkits, active or inactive, as well as malware hidden by rootkits. The first tests consisted of a detection and removal application with the exception of the dedicated anti-rootkit products that are not relevant to the application of scanning capabilities.
Signatures "This has already revealed some gaps in the database the scanner. The results of the analysis were the same access to the results on demand, so they are not listed separately in the results table. The maximum number of samples tools could detect was 30 dedicated rootkits, and not more than 27 rootkits could be deleted, because we used the original (and therefore write-protected) Media CD and DVD with the three commercial ' rootkits, Marx and Morgenstern showed.
The anti-rootkit technology managed a detection rate of about 80%, with suites of security and only 66% of online tools to only 53%. Microsoft Windows Live Safety Scanner 1.1.3007.0, for example, detected only 20 samples inactive, 17 active and only 25 examples of code malicius hidden by rootkits. In each category, Windows Live Safety Scanner would have detected 30 samples rootkit. When he goes to the kidnapping, a line scanner Microsoft performed even worse, to be able to remove only 19 samples inactive, 10 active and just eight pieces of malware hidden.
Under Vista, AV-Test run that she called "pure" anti-virus. "The tools of last update and frozen, October 2, 2007. To our surprise, the detection rate of inactive samples reached only 90% on average, even though most rootkits used were released in 2005 and 2006. Only four of the six installed rootkits can be detected by a tool and the average cleaning rate was even lower with 54%. AVG (with one of the best stand-alone tools in Windows XP) poor results without detection or cleaning rootkit on Vista, "Marx and Morgenstern added. In Windows Vista, Windows Live OneCare 1.6.2111.32 (1.1.2803.0) n ' is not an impediment to all of rootkits. The virus was detected five samples inactive, but just one active and successfully remove a rootkit unique. By comparison, F-Secure Anti-Virus 2008, Norton Antivirus 2008 and Panda Security Antivirus 2008 has achieved a perfect score by detecting and removing any rootkit on Vista.
"Tests for detecting active rootkits and cleaning characteristics of anti-malware are rather time consuming and require considerable resources to perform. However, programmers and testers should dedicate more attention to these features, as most AV tools still perform poorly in this area. Without proper anti-rootkit features a protection program may give the user the wrong impression about the state of their PC, "Marx and Morgenstern concluded.
